Adrian moved into Tom Raine court June 2019, having settled into the community, he then wished to make his home and the immediate vicinity within the courtyard more attractive to help with both his and his neighbours mental health. Due to many residents on the scheme suffering from either a physical or mental disability, bringing nature into everyone’s lives would benefit all and that is the kind of caring and supportive neighbour Adrian has displayed.
He has purchased out of his money various plants and taken the time to arrange and plant them in the communal garden doing his best with a limited budget for all to enjoy.
Tracy Smurthwaite- Assistant Neighbourhood Manager said-
“I joined the Salvation Army Homes housing team here at Tom Raine in January 2025 and I’m also a lover of nature and intend to start a community garden project here at Darlington and to help residents find inner peace amongst the turmoil of everyday lives, bring residents more together so that they learn and appreciate the importance of neighbour responsibilities and cohesiveness to break down barriers whilst enabling all to live in peace and tranquil.
Adrian and his trusted 4 legged companion – PIP, are often seen out and about in the courtyard tending to the plants and going for walks. Now that Spring has arrived it is hoped that with more flora that this will attract more wildlife also contributing to more wellbeing on the scheme.”
